‘COCOON’ IS RELEASED NOVEMBER 26 2021 (ON FILLY RECORDS)
+ LIVESTREAMED ALBUM LAUNCH SHOW AT EDINBURGH VOODOO ROOMS
Acclaimed Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Duncan has announced details of her new album ‘Cocoon’ and also recently released its lead single “A Door Is Opening”
‘Cocoon’ is the follow-up to 2020’s The Hidden World, from which the single “The Whole Town” received radio play on BBC Radio 2’s Folk Show and BBC6 Music’s Radcliffe & Maconie.
After the events of the past seventeen months, the exquisite “A Door Is Opening” is relatable for all of us; “The songs from ‘Cocoon’ came out of the experience of the pandemic, and “A Door Is Opening” is about the momentous feeling of leaving the house for a walk during lockdown,” explains Duncan. “The simple action of opening the door and stepping out felt like a special occasion, knowing that it was the only choice to make.”
Blending warm yet minimal folk and electronica sounds with intimate vocals, Cocoon was recorded in Edinburgh with producer-engineer Cameron Malcolm, who produced Paul Buchanan of The Blue Nile’s 2012 solo album Mid Air. Cameron is the son of Buchanan’s Blue Nile bandmate Calum Malcolm, who produced Duncan’s albums Cycles Of Life (2013), Undercurrents (2016) and Anitidote (2017), the former of which was released on The Blue Nile’s label Linn Records. Multi-instrumentalist Duncan plays keys, synths, electric guitar and electric upright bass on Cocoon, while her son Finn contributes acoustic guitar.
Duncan will launch Cocoon with a very special show at The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh on November 21, which will also be livestreamed.
