Hogwarts comes to Hannahs

Sunday 3 July- Sunday 25 September
Illustrating Harry Potter

Grab your wand and prepare to hop on your Nimbus 3000, as a stunning exhibition called Illustrating Harry Potter comes to the Seale-Hayne site this summer (July – September), showcasing original illustrations, sketches, models and final prints from the brand new edition of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, illustrated by Jim Kay.

The spellbinding exhibition has been put together by Seven Stories: The National Centre for Children’s Books in Newcastle (where the exhibition is currently running), and Bloomsbury Children’s Books. Jim Kay was personally selected by J.K. Rowling to bring her wizarding world alive with his dazzling illustrations. Over the next few years, Jim will be reimagining all seven books, with the first now available in a beautiful hardback edition.

Visitors will be able to pore over intricate sketches and stunning pencil drawings and discover Jim’s complex, creative process from inspiration to final illustration. Best of all, fans will be able to come face-to-face with breath-taking portraits of their favourite characters from Hogwarts…let’s hope they stay in their frames!

Look out for a whole summer of magical events to celebrate the exhibition. New events are being added all the time, so keep an eye on our website and social media.

Saturday 9 July – Murder Mystery DinnerMurder at the School of Magic
To compliment the Harry Potter Exhibition at Hannahs Seale-Hayne (just outside Newton Abbot), Moonstone Theatre presents a magical murder mystery dinner party. Staff at the School of Sorcery are concerned. A visiting Professor from the University of Magick has been found dead next to an old well in an abandoned cellar at the school. He had been researching the history of a Demon who was said to live at the bottom of the Well and who, legend has it, demanded two human souls every one hundred years.

It had been almost exactly one hundred years ago since two pupils at the school had been found dead at the edge of the well having, apparently, fallen down the steps that led to the cellar. The cellar had been sealed and was only re-opened for the, now dead, visiting Professor. Could it have been the Demon? Or was it someone using the Demon as a cloak to cover a murder? The legend suggested that two souls were demanded, so would there be a second death?

The staff at the school, together with the help of the guests present, are determined to get to the truth before the evening is out. All the clues will be there, but will they be correctly deduced?

The Bistro. 7.00pm – 10pm. £25 including dinner and a private view of the Harry Potter Exhibition. Wizarding fancy dress welcome. Shared table seating. Booking essential. Call 01626 325800 or visit www.discoverhannahs.org/harrypotter
