They’re back! – Popular Zoo TV Series Returns

The hit children’s series filmed at Paignton Zoo is back for a second series. CBBC have announced that the new series of The Zoo will start on Monday 9th April at 7:45am and run every week day for three weeks.

Paignton Zoo spokesperson Phil Knowling said: “The Natural History Unit took two top zoos – Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts – and created a single fictitious zoo full of eccentric personalities, crazy goings-on and oddball humour.”

Last summer, viewers fell in love with Jürgen the silverback and his oddball gang of gorillas – not forgetting the wise-guy baboons, the beat-boxing giant tortoises and vegetarian lions. The fifteen new episodes follow the colourful cast of animals and staff through tangled tales of new arrivals, animal care, environmental enrichment and comic confusion.

“There’s fun and games, discovery and learning – and liberal helpings of poo!”

Zoo keepers and vets mainly play the straight roles as they carry out their daily routines of cleaning, feeding and care. The gorilla gang of Germanic Jurgen (played by Kiondo), Geoffrey (Kivu with a Bristol accent), Californian dude Dave (in real life N’Dove) and Hank (Pertinax) are the stars – but look out for cameos from chameleons and speckled pigeons. The narrator once again is top comic Hugh Dennis. Paignton Zoo Environmental Park is a registered charity. For more information go to www.paigntonzoo.org.uk or ring 01803 697500.
